Did somebody say detox?

It’s that time of year again. Our bodies are feeling bloated, sluggish  and rather weary. For some it could be a result of slight over indulgence during the festive period and for others merely that our bodies are rather shattered after a busy year. Whatever the cause, January provides the perfect month to rid the body of unwanted toxins, allowing it to recharge and revitalise; so that you can kick start the New Year feeling great!

Here are our top 5 tips for an easy to follow January detox:

Starting each morning with a mug of warm water and lemon has been proven to help wake up the liver and flush away toxins. It can also help to kick start the digestive system, aid weight-loss and soothe a tummy ache and bloating. We recommend squeezing half a lemon into a mug and filling to the top with warm water. Also try adding 1/4-1/2 a tsp of turmeric which due to it being a strong antioxidant, helps to fight harmful free radicals and banish toxins.

Yoga to release toxins and reduce sreess2. Get active for one hour per day

Vigorous exercise for one hour per day can increases lymph flow and circulation to help sweat out toxins. The activity that you opt for is up to you and your abilities – anything from a fast walk to a body busting spin class can do the trick!

Salt bathing to remove toxins from the body3. Take a salt bath

Avoid overloading your digestive system. Try to eat at least 3 small meals and 2 snacks a day. Eating every couple of hours will reduce cravings, making sure you don’t reach for the chocolate! It’s important not to eat late at night, or go to bed before your meal is fully digested.

Body brushing to stimulate circulation and release toxins5. Body brushing

Daily body brushing stimulates circulation and increases skin detoxification. Using a natural fibre body brush, brush the skin with firm circular strokes. Start from the feet and hands, moving up the legs and towards the arms. Once complete, jump in the shower. We recommend finishing your shower with a one-minute burst of cold water to stimulate circulation.
